Queenstown Marathon

Queenstown Marathon

The Queenstown Marathon is an annual racing event that takes place in Queenstown, New Zealand. It is one of the two biggest New Zealand marathons that occur each year, attracting local and international runners from all over the world. One major highlight of the Queenstown marathon is that it takes you through a stunning course, where you get to experience the beautiful NZ scenery as you run.

The Queenstown marathon started in 2014, and ever since then, it has grown to be one of the most anticipated events of the year. For runners, the course runs through the Remarkables Mountain Range and Lake Wakatipu, giving you the opportunity to enjoy an amazing view while you run. There’s a full race of 42.2 km, which starts and finishes in Millbrook. There’s also a half race, a 10K race, and a kids’ race.

Course and Scenery on Queenstown Marathon

The Queenstown marathon runs through the backdrop of the Remarkables Mountain Range and Lake Wakatipu. It starts and stops at Millbrook in Arrowtown, which is twenty minutes away from Queenstown itself. It is a full 42.2 km course, but it’s mostly on flat land, with only a few hills, which makes it relatively easy compared to Auckland.

If you’re a fan of scenic views, you’ll enjoy this run because it goes past Lake Hayes, Arrow River, and Shotover River. By the time the Queenstown marathon is run, it will be autumn, and the colours of the leaves and trees will add wonder to the amazing ambience of the track. Along the way, there’ll be several aid stations for runners to get water, sports drinks, and snacks.

Lastly, you won’t have to worry about getting lost or staying off-track because we have plenty of volunteers along the way whose job is to ensure you are adequately encouraged and supported.

Participation in the Queenstown Marathon

Participation in the Queenstown marathon race requires registration, just like every other race in New Zealand. This can be done through the official website made available strictly for the event. To get a fair deal, you must register early because prices increase the closer the event gets.

If you’re interested in the event, either as a participant or a spectator, it is genuinely advised that you regularly check the site to stay abreast of the news involving the event, as there will be road closures and other related disruptions.
